Lead Organizer
Sophia Bos-Shadi (she/her) is a community organizer who understands and honors organizing as a discipline, a tradition, and a craft. Originally from Kankakee Illinois, Sophia developed a deep appreciation and love for the city of DC during her undergraduate career at Georgetown University.
Prior to joining the Fair Budget Coalition, Sophia engaged in successful organizing and advocacy efforts across local, state, and national spheres in order to advance a myriad of social justice issues. In 2020, she focused on community organizing in support of direct actions for justice for Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and the countless additional Black Americans who have been victims of deadly police and state violence. Passionate about challenging the systemic injustice of the carceral system and its impacts in her community, she co-founded the Illinois Prisoner Rights Coalition (ILPRC) in 2020. Sophia was also a member of the ACLU’s inaugural cohort of Pauli Murray Fellows. In this role, which was designed to invest in historically marginalized leadership in the nonprofit and civil rights fields, she was honored to walk in the legacy of the civil rights legend Dr. Rev. Pauli Murray.
In all her work Sophia is honored to serve her community and looks forward to deepening her knowledge and capabilities to effectively instigate transformational change.
